Mission and Vision
To improve learning in Karia primary school through upgrading dilapidated classrooms, building a library and computer lab, providing proper students desks and up-to-date learning materials, and improving sport fields. Also, we plan to build a community library to benefit village members who are not in school.
Fountain of Wisdom is a non-profit charity organization registered in the state of Massachusetts whose purpose is to eliminate poverty in the small village of Karia in central Kenya through better, modern education.
Karia is a poor village located in the central part of Kenya. There are no industries or manufacturing companies in this part of the world. Most residents work as casual laborers at nearby coffee plantations, while others perform manual jobs in the community. Those fortunate to own a piece of land are subsistence farmers, rearing cows, or growing vegetables, and earning a living by selling their produce.
Although the government is promoting education, it contributes a very small amount towards the funding of schools. Karia has only one primary school but it is in poor condition. The existing classrooms are dilapidated and overcrowded. Students’ desks are falling apart and teachers are using archaic materials to teach. Student toilets are in an unhygienic state. The school has no library, no computer lab, nor a student knowledge center. The playing field has been neglected for a long time and is overgrown with vegetation.
As of result of substandard education, more than half of Karia’s residents lack formal employment because they lack the skills needed in today’s job market. If changes in how students are educated are not done soon, their chance of succeeding out of poverty is almost zero.
